How to spot a fake discount (and avoid it)

2026-07-05 · 4 min read

A crossed-out price feels like a bargain. Yet that 'was' price often isn't the real historical price. Some shops raise it just before a sale to make the discount look bigger.

That's why Shoppo shows the real price history and flags fake discounts. If a product never had that high price in the past month, the 'discount' is mostly marketing.

Rule of thumb: always compare the all-in price across shops and ignore the crossed-out price. The lowest current price is what counts.
