How does our ranking work?

Shoppo ranks products and shops using a fixed, verifiable formula. Below are the main parameters and their role, in order of importance. This explanation applies to all organic listing pages and search results.

1. Relevance

How well a product matches your search or the page (title, brand, model, description). Relevance is the foundation: an irrelevant product never ranks on top, no matter what a shop pays.

2. Quality and reviews

The completeness of the product information (photos, specifications, explanations), the number of shops to compare, and a modest bonus for good, approved reviews — verified purchases count slightly more. This bonus is strictly capped.

3. Expected revenue per click — measured, not promised

Shops pay Shoppo a commission per purchase. Expected revenue per click plays a limited role in the ordering, and is calculated from actually approved commissions and real, measured clicks over the past 90 days — not from what a shop declares or promises itself. With little data we use the category average, so nobody can manipulate the ranking with artificial clicks. Products without revenue data remain fully findable.

3b. Attribution factor — measured where possible, honestly estimated where needed

Not every purchase after a click is attributed to Shoppo: affiliate programmes use different attribution models and cookie windows (for example 'last click within 24 hours'). Where we measure end-to-end ourselves (our own clicks matched to confirmed purchases), that loss is already contained in the measured figures and we apply no extra correction — nothing is counted twice. Only where our own measurement data is missing do we use a cautious expectation based on the recorded programme terms (window, model, share). For shops connected to us directly we measure within the agreed window ourselves, so this factor is effectively 1.

4. Trust: a hard gate, not a trade-off

Every shop has a trust score based on, among other things, its order cancellation rate, reviews, counterfeit screening and verification. Shops below the threshold or suspended shops are excluded from organic results entirely — a higher commission can never compensate for that.

Commission model & bid of direct stores

Stores connected directly to Shoppo choose their own commission model: a percentage per sale (CPS), an amount per click (CPC) or a fixed amount per order (CPA), always within limits we set. A higher bid raises the expected revenue per click and can rank an offer higher — but always multiplied by quality and relevance, and behind the hard trust gate. A high bid from a store with poor conversion or low trust does not win, and Shoppo's AI advice remains fully commission- and bid-free.

Sponsored placement is kept separate

Shops can buy a limited number of clearly labelled 'Sponsored' slots (at most two per page), through an auction where the winner pays the second-highest price. Sponsored placement never changes the organic order and never counts in the AI advice.

The AI advice is commission-free

When you ask Shoppo for advice, the AI assistant ranks purely on price (including shipping), quality and availability. Commissions, shop weights and revenue play no role whatsoever — the model never even sees that data.

The Shoppo Score

Every product gets an explainable Shoppo Score (0–10), built from weighted components: price-quality, seller reliability, return terms, review reliability, availability, hidden costs, warranty and sustainability (only with evidence). The full breakdown is available per recommendation via the 'Why this ranking?' button.

What we earn from it

With every comparative recommendation we openly state whether Shoppo may receive commission — and that the best-scoring option need not earn us anything. The substantive choice weighs only price, quality and reliability, never commission.
